WHAT IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?

Hair transplantation refers to the surgical movement of permanent hair with its roots to an area of bald skin. Hair transplantation is an effective and permanent solution for hair loss / baldness.
Hair grafting / hair plantation are local terms used for hair transplantation.
Hair weaving for hair loss is a temporary process and has no place in permanent treatment for baldness.
 
WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE INVOLVE?
Done under local anesthesia as OPD (out patient department) procedure
Takes around 6 – 8 hours
Done in operation theatre as sterility is very important
Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) is the mainstay of the procedure
Strip taken from the back of the scalp (Donor site)
Above strip is converted into Follicular Unit of 1-2 hair
These Follicular Units are transplanted to the desired donor area
The timing and number of plugs transplanted depends on the area and the density required

ABOUT THE DONOR SITE

The site from where the hair is taken is usually a fine scar line which is hidden by the permanent hair in that area.

ABOUT THE RECIPIENT SITE

After the procedure there are tiny marks where the grafts have been placed. Initially there is some crusting over these areas (5-14 days) but after this, these areas are usually not detectable.
 

DOES THE HAIR GROW?

After hair transplant normally transplanted hairs fall off and regrow only after 2-5 months. After this they begin to grow as normal hair. There is more hair, and the resulting appearance is thicker hair.

DOES IT LOOK NATURAL?

In the hands of a well-trained plastic surgeon, the hair grows in proper direction with a zig zag hairline, and a highly aesthetic result. These hairs can be washed, shampooed and cut as desired with no special care.

It is ones own hair, and just like all hair it also grows. It can be washed, curled, cleaned, permed and styled as desired. Once the transplants are completed, no special maintenance is required.

WHEN SHOULD I GET HAIR TRANSPLANT DONE?

Hair transplantation can be done both on patients with advanced baldness and earlier thinning.
2-3 sitting may be required in advanced baldness. There is no age bar for such patient (normally the age ranges from 20-60 years)
